বিএনপির প্রতিষ্ঠাতা ও সাবেক রাষ্ট্রপতি জিয়াউর রহমান এবং সাবেক প্রধানমন্ত্রী বিএনপির চেয়ারপারসন খালেদা জিয়া দম্পতির বড় ছেলে তারেক রহমান। ডাক নাম পিনু হলেও তারেক জিয়া নামেই তিনি অধিক পরিচিত। পারিবারিক সূত্রে ছাত্রজীবন থেকে বাংলাদেশের রাজনীতিতে বিচরণ থাকলেও ১৯৮৮ সালে, বগুড়া জেলা বিএনপির সদস্যপদ নিয়ে মূলধারার রাজনীতিতে তারেক রহমানের যাত্রা শুরু হয়। সময়ের সাথে সাথে তিনি দলটির নেতাকর্মীদের মধ্যে জনপ্রিয় ও প্রভাবশালী হয়ে ওঠেন। ২০০১ সালে বিএনপি সরকার গঠন করলে তারেক রহমান হয়ে ওঠেন দেশের সবচেয়ে প্রভাবশালী ব্যক্তিত্বদের একজন। এসময় তার নামের সাথে জড়িয়ে যায় পদ-বাণিজ্য, টেন্ডার বাণিজ্য, মানি-লন্ডারিংসহ হাওয়া ভবনের নাম। নানা সমালোচনায় জর্জরিত তারেক রহমান হয়ে ওঠেন দেশের রাজনীতির ডার্ক প্রিন্স!

Tariq Rahman is the eldest son of BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia. Although nicknamed Pinu, he is better known as Tarek Zia. Although family sources led him to politics in Bangladesh from student life, Tariq Rahman's journey into mainstream politics began in 1988, when he became a member of Bogra District BNP. Over time, he became popular and influential among party leaders. When the BNP government was formed in 2001, Tariq Rahman became one of the most influential figures in the country. At that time, the name of Hawa Bhaban was associated with his name of post-trading, tender trading, money-laundering.
